My new exclusive Range purses were made using North Country Cheeviot fleece which I dyed a few different colours. It was also the first time I tried using Dylon dyes on my wool. I’ve used them a lot over the years for fabric, but I usually use all-in-one acid dyes for my wool. But I think they turned out brilliant, so I will probably use them again at some point in the future.
The fibre was combed and then I dyed the fibre in a few different colours so I could make a self striping yarn when I came to spin it. I spun it as a worsted singles yarn, which made it come out lovely and smooth, and I think you can see that in the stocking stitch knitting on the finished purse. I had already drawn out a couple of designs, so I worked out my pattern and cut the lining out ready to start knitting.
The North Country Cheeviot is a majestic looking sheep, their so beautiful and elegant. If you look closely at the photo you can see how foamy the fleece looks, and that’s exactly how it feels in the hand. The purses look good and luxurious.
